GetCatch Privacy Policy

Who we are

GetCatch is developed and operated by Roman Semyiutchenko, the publisher of the app on the App Store ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, contact us at the email address on our support page.

What the app collects and why

Account data. To log catches you sign in with Apple. We receive a unique account identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address (which may be an Apple private relay address). You can set a nickname and a profile photo. We use this to run your account and show your name on your public catches.

Catches you post. When you log a catch, we store the location you set (map coordinates and an optional place name), the species, method, lure or bait, your comment, the photos you add and the date. Catches are reviewed and, once approved, are public: other users can see them in the community feed and on the map, including the location. If you do not want to reveal an exact spot, set a general location. When a catch is submitted, a short moderation notice (species, method, place name and similar catch details) is sent to our moderation channel so we can review it.

Community activity. We store the likes you give, reports you make about content and users you block, so these features work and so we can act on abuse.

Location. With your permission ("while using the app"), the app uses your device location to show where you are on the map, to set the location of a catch and to get a forecast for your position. We do not track your location in the background.

Forecast requests. To calculate a bite forecast, the app sends the coordinates of the place you selected to the weather provider Open-Meteo. These requests do not include your account details.

Photos. The app accesses your photo library only when you choose photos to attach to a catch or to your profile.

On-device settings. Preferences such as the app language are stored on your device.

The app does not contain advertising, and does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Services we use

These providers process data on our behalf or, in the case of Google Maps, under their own policies once you leave the app.

The getcatch.fish website

The website does not require an account. If you allow analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and how many visitors click through to the App Store. Before you choose, analytics runs without cookies in a restricted mode. You can change your choice by clearing this site's data in your browser. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and requested page) for security and reliability.

How long we keep data

We keep your account and catches until you delete them or your account. You can delete individual catches in your profile, and you can delete your account at any time from the profile screen in the app; this permanently erases your account data, including your catches. Moderation notices and server logs are kept only as long as needed for moderation and security.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. Most of this you can do directly in the app (edit your profile, delete catches, delete your account). For anything else, contact us via the support page and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

GetCatch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We will update this page if our data practices change and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
