How to read this forecast

Each card shows the day score for daylight hours (05:00 to 21:00 local time) and the best three-hour window for that species. Scores of 71 and above are "great", 51 to 70 "good", 31 to 50 "fair". The weather line underneath shows the average pressure, wind, air temperature and chance of rain for those hours.

The score is calculated for central Kyiv. Conditions on the Kyiv Reservoir to the north or on the lower Desna can differ, especially wind. For a forecast at the exact spot you plan to fish, use the map in the app.

What tends to matter most in Kyiv

Wind on open water. The Dnipro through Kyiv is wide, and the reservoirs upstream and the Kaniv Reservoir downstream are wider still. A steady wind of 8 to 10 m/s makes boat fishing uncomfortable and spinning from the bank harder to control. The model already lowers the score at strong winds, but wind direction matters too: a sheltered bay with the wind behind you can fish well when exposed banks do not.

Pressure trend before a front. Autumn in Kyiv often brings fronts that arrive with falling pressure and cloud, followed by a cold, bright and rising-pressure spell. Many anglers find predators feed better as cloud builds and worse on the first sunny day after the front. That is reflected in the model's small bonus for gently falling pressure.

Time of day by species. Pike and perch peak around dawn and in the morning in autumn; zander are often best in the evening and after dark. Use the species tabs above to compare. A day with a modest pike score can still have a strong zander evening.

Before you go

  • Check the current fishing rules for the water you plan to visit. Seasonal spawning restrictions and protected areas apply in Ukraine; the authoritative source is the State Agency of Melioration and Fisheries of Ukraine.
  • Check safety and access restrictions in Kyiv region. Some banks and waters may be closed for security reasons.
  • See where predators have been reported recently on the Kyiv fishing spots page.

Why trust or doubt the number

The forecast is a weather model, not a fish counter. It is most useful for choosing when to go, and least useful in situations it cannot see: a sudden water-level change from the dams, a cold-water inflow, or heavy fishing pressure on a weekend. Read how the bite forecast works for the full method, including the weights for each weather factor and the species adjustments.
